How to connect to OSX server from outside my local network

I have just purchased a new Mac Mini and am in the process of setting up OSX Server on it (OSX Server 5.1. El Capitan OSX 10.11.4).

I am at the early stages of setting up.

I have:

- Set up open directory, DNS and VPN

- a static IP, registered DNS, and third party certificate

I have port forwarded ports: 625, 500, 1701, 1723, 4500, 443

I am unable to see any of these services from ourside my local network.

I have deliberately not set the default DNS on my router to 10.0.0.X, as I want to confirm the server can be accessed from outside my local network.

When I try "Reachability", no services appear.

When I try and connect to open directory (from a different computer: system preferences->users and groups->login options->network account server->enter domain, I receive "Unable to add server. Connection failed to the directory server. (2100)"

I would appreciate any help anyone may be able to give.

Thanks in advance

Wilson

Hi Wilson,

Look at these pages for tutorials to set up your server. Alternatively, if you like some good reading http://krypted.com/guides/el-capitan-server/ contains very good online reading, as does http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/

In the App Store, the series of three books by Reid Bondonis are excellent.

Your problem does seem to be DNS related. If all your records are in place, it should work. Before trying DNS, do something less complicated.
